Standing in front of your newly installed fireplace you think that a floating mantel shelf would be a stylish, and functional addition to your fireplace where you could display your family pictures and personal nick knacks you so cherish.
This shelf is made out of your preferred unfinished Wood species that can be painted or stained as you wish. Only the Paint Grade, made of MDF or Poplar, can be painted.
All other wood types can be stained. Available in real wood types of Oak, Alder, Maple, Beechwood and Cherry which can be stained. It is best to paint or to at least use a clear stain on the mantel to ensure the wood lasts for a long time.
Cambridge has an open back and is hollow on the inside for easy installation. To install the shelf you need to mount a 2x2 or 2x4 on the wall, this is called a cleat that allows you to easily slide the shelf over it. You may need to level the shelf by shimming it before drilling 2 holes into the cleat and secure the shelf with 2 long drywall screws. The cleat and screws are not included. Make sure to have wood putty at hand that matches the stain you will use

Note: Unpack and inspect immediately then store in a flat area or install the mantel. Do not lean parts against a wall for storage. The product continues to cure so if you don’t remove the plastic wrap it can cause discoloration due to uneven curing.
